- Breast Surgeon - Saint Louis University - SLUCare - St. Louis, MO
Description
This is a unique opportunity to assume leadership at SLUCare, a part of Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. It is an established and growing practice. You will step into a well-supported environment with experienced, breast-trained staff and serve as part of the second busiest breast program in the St. Louis region.
Practice Overview
Clinical Volume & Setting:
Approximately 6 surgical procedures per week
Over 120 breast tumor cases annually (2024 data)
90-95% of patients receive integrated medical oncology and/or radiation oncology through SSM Health
Practice Infrastructure:
Dedicated outpatient clinic with 3 exam rooms
Private office space
Experienced, breast-trained support staff
Established referral network and growing patient volume
Position Responsibilities
Clinical Care:
Provide comprehensive breast surgical services at St. Mary's campus
Deliver evidence-based, patient-centered breast cancer care
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning and coordination
Academic & Educational Engagement:
A formal academic faculty appointment to SOM is an option, but not a requirement, for the breast surgeon at SSM Health St. Mary's in St. Louis; however, close collaboration across the academic platform is expected to support the educational and clinical mission of the institution. This includes:
Teaching & Mentorship:
Work alongside surgical residents, medical students, and trainees in clinical and operative settings.
Foster a supportive educational environment for developing surgical professionals.
Contribute to hands-on surgical education and clinical teaching.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration (Required):
Regular attendance and active participation in tumor board conferences
Collaborative decision-making with medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, and other specialists
Team-based approach to patient care and treatment planning
Requirements
What We're Looking For:
Board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery with fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology
Commitment to multidisciplinary, evidence-based breast cancer care
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring trainees
Collaborative approach and team-oriented mindset
Dedication to both clinical excellence and educational mission
