- Cardiothoracic Surgeon - VAD / Mechanical Circulatory Support
Description
Virtua Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking a board-certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon with expertise in ventricular assist devices (VADs) and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) to join our established and growing team in South Jersey. This position offers a balanced practice that includes the full spectrum of general adult cardiothoracic surgical cases.
This is an excellent opportunity for a surgeon who enjoys a diverse operative practice while also playing a key role in the growth and advancement of Virtua’s mechanical circulatory support program.
Position Highlights
- Combined practice of general adult cardiothoracic surgery and advanced heart failure/MCS
- Durable VAD implantation, management, and explantation
- Participation in temporary MCS, including Impella and ECMO
- Broad adult cardiothoracic case mix including coronary revascularization and valve surgery, with additional procedures aligned to program needs and surgeon expertise
- Shared call within a collegial, established cardiothoracic surgery group
- Close collaboration with advanced heart failure cardiology, cardiac anesthesia, ICU teams, and VAD coordinators
- Opportunities for program development, education, and research
Responsibilities
- Perform general adult cardiothoracic surgical cases in addition to VAD/MCS procedures
- Provide surgical care for advanced heart failure patients across the continuum
- Participate in perioperative and longitudinal management of MCS patients
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support quality, safety, and outcomes
- Contribute to service line growth, protocol development, and quality initiatives
Qualifications
- MD or DO; Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Fellowship training or significant experience in VAD and mechanical circulatory support
- Strong commitment to teamwork and patient-centered care

In compliance with New Jersey pay transparency laws, all physician roles include a posted minimum base salary. The minimum base salary for this position is $772,500.00 per year. Final compensation for this role will be competitive and commensurate with experience, qualifications, and prevailing market factors.
