- General Thoracic Surgeon
Description
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking a fulltime General Thoracic Surgeon to join the faculty of the Division and develop a clinical practice within the Section of General Thoracic Surgery. Appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Midcareer and junior faculty candidates will be considered.
The successful applicant will focus on the surgical management of malignant and benign diseases of the lung, esophagus, mediastinum, trachea, chest wall, and pleura, and will participate in OHSU’s multidisciplinary lung and esophageal cancer programs, which serve as regional referral centers for complex thoracic disease. Experience with or interest in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, including VATS and robotic-assisted approaches, is preferred.
Clinical responsibilities will be based primarily at OHSU Hospital, with additional responsibilities at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington.
The position includes active participation in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows, both in and out of the operating room. Opportunities exist for clinical, outcomes-based, or translational research, and a surgeon–scientist role may be tailored for appropriately interested and qualified candidates.
OHSU is the only academic medical center in the state of Oregon and functions as a tertiary and quaternary referral center for the region. OHSU has an NIH accredited cancer center and has recently opened an inpatient facility, the Vista Pavilion, attached to our main hospital, and dedicated to cancer care. OHSU is located in Portland, Oregon, which offers a vibrant cultural scene, a mild climate, and close proximity to the natural beauty and outdoor recreation of the Pacific Northwest.
Interested applicants should send a CV and letter of interest describing clinical and academic interests to westerlt@ohsu.edu.
