Mountain View Animal Emergency is looking for an experienced Specialty Technician to join us as a part of our Surgery Department. As part of our surgery department, you will work with a fantastic team that is committed to supporting the knowledge and growth of it’s support staff. You will have the opportunity to utilize your skills to the fullest.
Role Responsibilities:
- Prepare animals for imaging and surgery (soft tissue, orthopedics, minimally invasive/interventional) by performing pre-anesthetic administration, IV placement, intubation, clipping and scrubbing patients.
- Administer anesthetic drugs/ gas anesthesia, anesthetic monitoring, and patient positioning for procedures.
- Maintain and administer fluids and medications to patients.
- Perform laboratory skills such complete blood chemistries, microscopic analysis, and preparing any surgical samples for in –house or third-party lab evaluation.
- Phlebotomy: taking blood from a patient.
- Obtain patient history and patient vitals (temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate).
- Restrain, lift, and carry patients.
- Utilize a variety of electronic equipment such as a computers and iPads.
- Cleaning and sterilizing of surgical equipment.
- Ability to perform medical math.
- Flexibility with schedule and ability to fulfill on-call rotations.
- Provide client education such surgical discharges and at home medication administration.
- Properly fill and label prescriptions.
- Clean equipment and cages, stock inventory, and do laundry.
- Ethical responsibility to keep confidential patient records and information about clients.
Requirements
Experience & Skills Requirements:
- Minimum one year of experience in an emergency or specialty setting preferred
- Current RVT or VTNE eligible
- Basic tech skills required include venipuncture, anesthesia, nursing care
- Patient advocate with a strong interest in career growth and personal development
- Positive, outgoing personality with active interest in maintaining team relations
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Proven ability to multi-task in a busy work setting
- Professional demeanor and outgoing personality
- Basic medical math and calculations
