Position Overview
The Department of Surgery at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is seeking a full-time academic surgeon to join the Acute Care Surgery (ACS) Service at Grady Health System. This position is open to new graduates and mid-career surgeons who are board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, having completed a two-year AAST-accredited Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship.
The successful candidate will hold a full-time clinical appointment with Grady Health System and an academic appointment at Morehouse School of Medicine. Clinical responsibilities include coverage of Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at Grady Memorial Hospital. Faculty members are also expected to teach medical students and residents, participate in clinical research, and contribute to programmatic and academic development within the department.
Grady Memorial Hospital is the only ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center in Atlanta, with approximately 10,000 trauma admissions annually, serving both the Atlanta community and as a referral center for surrounding hospitals. The new faculty member will join a collaborative team of 15 Acute Care Surgeons and 3 Non-Surgical Intensivists, providing high-quality, evidence-based care in a multidisciplinary, academic environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive clinical care in Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Grady Memorial Hospital.
- Participate in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Engage in clinical research, quality improvement, and scholarly activities that advance the department’s academic mission.
- Contribute to programmatic development and departmental initiatives that enhance patient care, education, and service.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes and promote excellence in acute care surgery and critical care.
- Provide night, weekend, and holiday coverage as part of the faculty call rotation.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Medical Degree: MD or DO degree; board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
- Experience: Completion of a two-year AAST-accredited Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship.

- Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia.
