Position Overview
The Department of Surgery at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is seeking a full-time, fellowship-trained Critical Care Physician with core training in Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, or Surgery to join the faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. This position combines clinical excellence, academic engagement, and service within one of the nation’s leading institutions dedicated to health equity and training diverse healthcare leaders.
The selected candidate will hold a full-time clinical appointment with the Grady Health System Acute Care Surgery Service and an academic appointment at Morehouse School of Medicine. The physician will provide care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)—managing critically ill trauma, surgical, and cardiovascular patients—while participating in resident and medical student education, clinical research, and program development.
This position offers a unique opportunity to practice in Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta’s only ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center, which manages approximately 10,000 trauma admissions annually. The faculty member will join a collaborative team of 15 Acute Care Surgeons and 3 Non-Surgical Intensivists, working in a multidisciplinary academic environment supported by partnerships with Grady Health System, Emory School of Medicine, and Morehouse School of Medicine.

Clinical and Academic Environment
Grady Memorial Hospital is the only ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center in Atlanta, with approximately 10,000 trauma admissions annually. Grady serves as a vital resource for the Atlanta community and as a referral center for hospitals across the region. The successful applicant will join a team of 15 Acute Care Surgeons and 3 Non-Surgical Intensivists on the Acute Care Surgery service at Grady.
Clinical responsibilities include providing care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, teaching trainees at all levels, and participating in clinical research and program development. In collaboration with Morehouse School of Medicine, Grady Health System, and the Emory School of Medicine, the position offers access to a robust, multidisciplinary academic network that supports clinical care, research, community engagement, and systems innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive clinical care for patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, including trauma, acute care surgery, and cardiovascular patients.
- Participate in Acute Care Surgery and Trauma Surgery coverage as assigned.
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows within the academic programs of Morehouse School of Medicine.
- Engage in scholarly activities such as research, quality improvement, and educational innovation consistent with the department’s academic mission.
- Collaborate across disciplines to improve patient outcomes and advance excellence in critical care delivery.
- Contribute to departmental and institutional service through committee participation and program leadership.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Medical Degree: MD or DO degree; fellowship-trained and board-eligible or board-certified in Critical Care Medicine.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in academic medicine, with demonstrated expertise in surgical education and administration. Prior experience as a residency program director or associate director is strongly preferred.
- Core training in Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, or Surgery.
- Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, education, research, and service to diverse and underserved populations.
- Research and Scholarship: An active interest in educational scholarship, with experience in academic research or contributions to educational literature preferred.
- Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia.
- Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
