PGY 1-2 Position –Nonstandard Training Program (NST) abdominal transplant surgery at Loyola University Medical Center
The Loyola University Medical Center, General Surgery Abdominal Transplant Program is looking to fill a one-year, PGY 1 – or PGY 2 NST position beginning on June 22, 2026.
Qualified applicants will be a current PGY 1/2 surgery resident in good standing in an ACGME-accredited residency in either general surgery, integrated vascular surgery, or integrated cardiac surgery.
How to apply: All interested applicants should submit their current CV, medical school diploma and transcript, MSPE (Dean’s letter), USMLE transcript, ECFMG certificate (if applicable), updated Defined Category Case Log Report signed by Program Director, three current letters of recommendation to include one from current Program Director (can be sent as separate files), PGY1 ABSITE Score Report, ACLS/BLS and ATLS certificates, a list of all previously completed rotations, FLS certification if completed, Annual Competency-based Summative PGY 1 & 2 evaluations, all Surgery Milestones evaluations, any completed Entrustable Professional Activity evaluations, a personal statement, and a detailed explanation for any remediation or probation during residency training. Requirements
The Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center offer state of the art transplantation services including liver, normothermic perfusion, kidney, pancreas and living donor transplant, robotic surgery, and hepatobiliary surgery. The division reports to the Department of Surgery that includes eleven divisions including General Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Intra-Abdominal Transplantation, GI/Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, Trauma/Surgical Critical Care/Burn Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Medicine, and Surgical Research. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with any specialty in clinical and translational research projects. Research funding is derived from a variety of sources including the NIH.
Our typical resident schedule includes acute care surgery in transplant patients, abdominal transplant surgery, quality assessment and improvement projects, morbidity and mortality presentations, journal club in transplant surgery and full participation in general surgery residency program educational activities.
During this year, residents continue developing their clinical and operative skills that they developed in their first year to assist them in the transition to increased autonomy as a junior surgical resident.
