The Department of Surgery at The Ottawa Hospital/ University of Ottawa is inviting applications for a locum position in the Division of General Surgery. We seek a temporary full-time, Academic, Trauma and Acute Care General Surgeon, at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The successful candidate will have completed a residency program in general surgery as well as fellowship training in Trauma, or Acute Care General Surgery. The surgeon will have opportunity to participate in multiple clinical roles including most responsible physician (MRP) on Acute Care Surgery Service, MRP on Trauma Service, Trauma Team Leader, Emergency Surgery Clinic, and On Call Coverage. In addition, the candidate will be provided a limited elective general surgery practice with a focus on benign general surgical conditions. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in education, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

The Ottawa Hospital is a 1150 bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at three inpatient sites (Civic, General, and the Rehabilitation Centre) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside). There are approximately 50,000 inpatient admission, 160,000 emergency visits and over one million outpatient visits annually. The Ottawa Hospital is the Level 1 trauma referral centre for Eastern Ontario. With a catchment of nearly 2 million people, our trauma program facilitates inpatient care for close to 1,300 patients annually.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
- The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Lecturer Professor (or greater)
- The candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- The candidate must have coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
- The successful candidate must have demonstrated outstanding knowledge, skills and ethical standards as evidenced by strong letters of reference
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The income for this position is derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (fee-for-service) and on-call stipends. Health and welfare benefits including extended health, dental and disability insurance as well as life insurance are offered for purchase to permanent full-time surgeons only.
REMUNERATION DETAILS
Salary range: $350,000 - $500,000 annually. Primary source of income is fee-for-service.
