Position Overview:
Vandalia Health is seeking a distinguished and visionary leader for the position of Division Chief of Thoracic Surgery. This pivotal role is based at Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) and offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of thoracic care in West Virginia and beyond. As the Division Chief, you will be responsible for leading and expanding thoracic surgical services across our integrated health system. This position allows for significant collaboration with other Vandalia Health hospitals, enhancing the scope and impact of our thoracic surgery programs. You will join an esteemed cardiothoracic team that includes 5 cardiac surgeons and 2 thoracic and esophageal surgeons, all renowned for their history of growth and innovation. In this role, you will lead the ongoing development of the Division, with robust support for both clinical excellence and pioneering research initiatives. We are looking for an accomplished individual who can drive the advancement of lung and esophageal surgery while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Leadership Responsibilities:
As a collaborative leader, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for thoracic surgery services across Vandalia Health. Your role will encompass leading the recruitment, mentorship, and development of thoracic surgery faculty and staff. Additionally, you will collaborate with system leadership to expand service lines, enhance quality, and drive innovation. Your commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence will be demonstrated through teaching, research, and scholarly activity. Ensuring alignment with system-wide goals in quality, safety, and patient experience is paramount. You will drive the further success and momentum of our General Thoracic division, which has experienced remarkable growth of over 200% in robotic thoracic cases over the past year. By joining us, you will become part of the only program in the state to secure a prestigious 3-star quality rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgery for lung cancer care in the previous year.
Clinical & Academic Highlights:
The Division of Thoracic Surgery enjoys robust clinical research support with a dedicated research scientist, medical writer, seamless access to clinical trials, and weekly research meetings focused on thoracic surgery. Our team performs a full range of thoracic surgical procedures, including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques for lung and esophageal conditions. We are deeply involved in teaching through CAMC’s 20+ residency and fellowship programs, providing hands-on learning opportunities for the next generation of medical professionals. The division actively participates in clinical trials and research initiatives supported by over 300 active studies. This commitment to research ensures that we continually improve patient outcomes and advance the field of thoracic surgery. Our team has access to cutting-edge technology and engages in multidisciplinary collaboration, enhancing our ability to deliver exceptional care. Affiliated with the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine, our growing academic medical center sponsors 14 accredited medical residency and fellowship programs, including those in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Recent advancements include the completion of a state-of-the-art 14,000 square foot simulation center in our new Center for Learning and Research. This facility is dedicated to enhancing education and research initiatives, providing a premier environment for learning. The chief of the division will have the ability to train general surgery residents and has the potential to initiate a cardiothoracic fellowship further expanding our educational impact and clinical excellence.
Qualifications:
Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery- Clinical expertise in minimally invasive lung and esophageal surgery- Proven leadership experience in an academic or large health system setting- Strong commitment to clinical excellence, education, and innovation- Eligible for medical licensure in West Virginia
Compensation Package:
We are offering a competitive compensation package for the recruitment of a Division Chief of Thoracic Surgery. Annual Base Salary: $1.1M Sign-On Bonus: Up to $100,000, contingent upon a three-year commitment. This package reflects our commitment to attracting a highly qualified leader to advance the Cardiothoracic Surgery program and deliver exceptional patient care.
