Company Overview
Dean Health System is a large integrated health care delivery system in southern Wisconsin. It is headquartered in Madison, but its service area covers 18 counties. DHS provides health care services and health insurance coverage through a network of medical centers, physician groups, hospitals, and related health care providers. Its primary business operation is a 500 physician multi-specialty practice, with 4400 employees, and spread out over 65 locations. Dean Health Insurance provides health coverage for 230,000 covered lives throughout its service area.
Company History
The roots of the Dean Health System can be traced back to 1904 when Dr. Joseph Dean and a few colleagues began their medical practice in a small, but growing city of Madison, the capital of Wisconsin. The practice grew steadily throughout the 20th and 21st century. Here are a few notable developments:
--1961: Opened the doors of its first large clinic setting.
--1983: Created the Dean Care HMO, later named Dean Health Plan.
--1985: Created Health and Research Foundation.
--1989: Created SMDV, management structure for rural clinics.
--1994: Merged with the Riverview Clinic in Janesville.
--1995: Merged with Davis Duehr Eye Associates.
--1995: Solidified strategic partnership with St. Mary's Hospital.
--21st Century: Opened the doors of two new large clinic settings.
