- General Surgery Categorical PGY-4 Resident
Description
The General Surgery Residency Program at Rutgers Health/Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ has an ACGME accredited CATEGORICAL training position available at the PGY-4 level beginning July 1, 2026. Please see the specific requirements and instructions for applying below. Please be aware: Rutgers Health/Community Medical Center sponsors J-1 Visas only.
PREREQUISITES (no exceptions)
Successful completion in good standing of THREE (3) years in an ACGME accredited general surgery residency training program (or currently enrolled in a PGY-3 year for the 2025-2026 academic year).
Must have graduated from an accredited medical school or
International Medical Graduates must have a valid ECFMG certificate (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates).
REQUIREMENTS

Curriculum Vitae
Brief Personal Statement
Medical School Diploma and Transcript
Dean’s Letter
USMLE Parts I, II, III scores (must be first pass) or COMLEX I, II-CE, III scores
ABSITE scores and reports for all years completed
Three (3) current Letters of Recommendation, including one from the current Program Director, will be required.
Current year semi-annual Evaluation
Current ACGME “General Surgery Defined Category and Minimum” and “General Surgery Year 2 Minimum” case log reports
BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certification (all unexpired)
FLS and FES Certifications (if applicable)
Copy of ECFMG (if applicable)
Copy of current DS2019 for J-1 Visa holders (if applicable)

Applications submitted prior June 15, 2026, will be considered for the first rounds of interviews. However, applications will be accepted and considered on a continuing basis until this position is filled.

Applications considered competitive for the position will be invited for a virtual interview (possibly in-person as well) with faculty, the program director, associate program director, and residents.
