Physician, Head of the Division of the Visceral Surgery (CHV) with a professor title
within the Department of Surgery (DC)
Starting date: 01.01.2027 (or to be agreed)
Place: Lausanne, Switzerland
The Division of Visceral Surgery brings together expertise in numerous surgical specialties, including hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, bariatric surgery (obesity), surgery of the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum and proctology, endocrine surgery, sarcoma and melanoma surgery, and kidney transplantation Minimally invasive and robotic surgery are well-established techniques that are rapidly expanding. Teaching, training, clinical research, quality of care, and patient safety are among the Division’s core missions. This includes all teaching activities and courses for medical students, as well as advanced and continuing training in visceral, general, and emergency surgery. Through its numerous scientific publications, the Division remains at the forefront of medical research in its field, conducting many research projects each year within its areas of clinical expertise. The Department is a pioneer and an international leader in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). It maintains numerous collaborations at the institutional, national, and international levels.
Main missions:
1. Lead, organize, and manage the development of all activities within a university surgical division.
2. Ensure and strengthen the expertise, safety, quality, and efficiency of the division’s clinical missions and services, while developing multidisciplinary and interinstitutional collaborations and synergies in line with the strategic plan of CHUV.
3. Unite, lead, and advance high-level clinical and academic research, supported by competitively awarded external funding and published in high-quality scientific journals, including one’s own research activities.
4. Ensure and guarantee undergraduate (according to FBM requirements), postgraduate (ISFM category A1 training center), and continuing education missions within the specialty, serving as the discipline lead and actively contributing to these educational activities.
5. Ensure the development of a sufficient and high-quality pipeline of medical and scientific workforce within the specialty, while strengthening the clinical and academic visibility of the department both within the institution and at the cantonal, national, and international levels

Desired profile:
- Federal medical diploma (or mandatory MEBEKO recognition), MD or MD-PhD
- Board certification in surgery, with advanced training in visceral surgery (mandatory ISFM or MEBEKO recognition)
- Extensive clinical experience in tertiary-level visceral surgery
- Knowledge and/or experience in kidney transplantation and/or robotic surgery, is an asset
- Proven and certified managerial skills in leading and managing large and/or multisite teams (medical, nursing, administrative, and academic), with the ability to unite them around a shared departmental vision, as well as solid experience in managing transversal clinical projects that are interdisciplinary and interprofessional
- Academic expertise at professorial level, with demonstrated experience in undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education
- Good knowledge of French (ideally native speaker or C1, minimum B2 with the ability to progress rapidly)
- Proven record of exemplary professional conduct: the successful candidate must demonstrate the highest standards of integrity and full compliance with the legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements associated with the position
