Join one of the fastest-growing thoracic programs in New York and practice within a physician-led culture under the leadership of Dr. Abbas E. Abbas, System Chair of Thoracic Surgery. This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced surgeon to contribute to program growth while working under the guidance of an internationally recognized leader in thoracic surgery.
Position Overview
This is a senior-level role focused on clinical excellence, leadership, and program development within the Department of Thoracic Surgery. The successful candidate will work closely with the Department Chair to advance strategic initiatives and expand thoracic surgical services across the health system.
Base Salary: $750K+
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced thoracic surgical care including all aspects of pulmonary, mediastinal and foregut surgery
- Manage complex surgical cases and contribute to clinical excellence initiatives
- Partner directly with the Department Chair on program development and growth strategies
- Collaborate with physician leadership across the health system
- Lead or participate in quality improvement and innovation initiatives
- Mentor junior faculty and contribute to a high-performing surgical team
Leadership Structure
- Reports directly to the Chair of Thoracic Surgery
- Works in close collaboration with system physician leadership
- Provides mentorship and guidance to junior surgeons and trainees
Qualifications
- Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Training: Completion of an accredited Thoracic Surgery Fellowship
- Certification: Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery (ABMS-recognized board)
- Licensure: Active (or eligible) New York State medical license and DEA
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of clinical thoracic surgery experience
Skills: Demonstrated leadership ability, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care
